In my workshop, there is one big "kill switch" in the form of an emergency stop switch wired to a "master" contactor that is in the main feed to the workshop. I installed it at the request of SWMBO, so she could kill the power if I became too wrapped up in my hobby. Every night, I hit the kill switch and hence have no need to check if specific bits are on or off.
