Hi,
Oh dear Big Al; you've well and truly blown that motor up and should give it a decent burial poor thing?
I'm puzzled though why you need 150psi which would stress a small motor? If the compressor pump is a good one you could always upgrade the motor to say a 1.1KW which would be on top of the job but still use the same pulley size because otherwise the pump might suffer?
Regarding motor name-plates; when I worked at Brooks we had full time name-platers in Home Trade Despatch these being Jack; George and Les; I too have knocked on thousands of plates. We had a dedicated name-plate office where all the plate were stamped those which needed stamping; when the small fractional HP motors eventually came to our warehouse then we also supplied stick on foil type name-plates. Many customers had only their own name-plates fitted making it appear as though they also made the motor as well as the equipment the motor was fitted to. Your motor Alan has both the official Brook plate fitted and a customers plate as well?
If your compressor is very old then new compressors these days are cheap enough for home workshop use; an Aldi compressor comes with a good warranty and is usually big enough for general use like paint spraying and tyre inflating. I bought my 3HP compressor through eBay and this was a bargain at £160 but I use it for soda/hard media blasting as well as general duties. It depends what you want to use the compressor for but given that you've just made a nice job of plumbing in the air line around your garage why not take this opportunity to upgrade to 3HP?
Every time I leave the garage after a session I always check and double check everything electrical I can switch off is indeed switched off; I've installed "idiot lights" to my Graduate lathe and also the big 3 phase transformer because I was worried about leaving these with power switched on; the Graduate VFD is out of sight and the transformer is silent so it's now very obvious when they are powered up.
Good luck Alan but I reckon your pocket is about to suffer quite a shock?
Kind regards, Col.
