Hi,
One solution would be to modify David's excellent radio back slot cutting jig designed for use with a router. Once such a jig was made then it would be easy to cut mortices (slots); for deep mortices the work would need inverting thereby cutting from both edges but once set up this wouldn't be a major problem and a production line with forward planning would speed the work up.
I have a brand new 2,100W router bought from Screwfix which will be excellent for such work but unlike a dedicated square chisel morticer the router will do so much more making it of more use especially in a home workshop where space and funds tend to be limited?

The link above shows my router and when I bought it the router cost just under £100 being on special offer making it an absolute bargain and for peace of mind it comes with a two year warranty.
A router of this size is not a toy and capable of serious work whether freehand or mounted into a table; Obviously any mortices cut with a router will have rounded ends but this also applies to my much more expensive Startrite slot morticer.
Just a thought but a router can do so much more than simply cut slots.
Kind regards, Col.
