Complete nonsense - how can providing shopping, housing and a park-and-ride scheme for local residents, promoted by Cornwall Council, Waitrose and the Duchy of Cornwall 'destroy a whole valley'? Really, shouty idiots like that who enjoy their 15 minutes of fame bouncing their egos off the walls of planning meetings should be laughed off the face of the planet. There was strong opposition to a Tesco in Beverley, all overruled in the end, then when it was built, it's teeming with customers who struggle to park their cars it's so busy. I Don't suppose that any of those customers will be those who opposed the store and signed the petition? Oh no no no - that would never happen would it?

At the rear of our house about 75 ft away (In a conservation area) there used to be a five story University halls of residence full of rowdy students (the girls of which were far worse than the boys). The part that overlooked our house was a five storey toilet block. The University emptied the block, sold the site for development and demolished the building - wonderful news. A large reputable building firm put plans forward, which were amended five times to try to overcome objections, and still several neighbours objected, one of whom went to the planning meeting and raised any and every objection imaginable. She was overruled, the scheme went ahead and now, instead of having a five story toilet block and scores of unruly students as our 'neighbours' we have two £400k detached houses with charming people for neighbours. My next door neighbour has rebuffed them as 'incomers'. The blow me - another vociferous objector who has a large garden had the cheek to later apply for planning permission to build a bungalow on it! I guess he could be termed a -YIMBY' - 'Yes In My Backyard'. He was most upset to be refused.

That's how daft people can be.
