I did quite an extensive search for a supplier of Paxolin/Tufnol sheet at sensible prices and recently bought some 1mm, 2mm and 4mm thick 'phenolic' sheets (Tufnol substitute - available in brown or black), from a firm which has an e-bay shop. I didn't realise when I ordered it that the firm is located in Hull about three miles from me and is long-established. They also stock a wide range of similar materials in various thicknesses and size of sheet, and sell rod and bar too, in such materials as acetal and nylon, (but not tube, as far as I can see). To give a few examples, a 200mm x 150mm x 1mm sheet of phenolic Tufnol substitute would be £1.60. A 300mm X 300mm X 1mm sheet costs £3.85 and 300mm x 300mm x 3mm would be £4.95. (p&p varies from £1.35 upwards according to size and weight).

The black sheet makes nice substitute 'Vucanite' lookalike front panels for such things as test gear or repro crystal sets etc, and could no doubt be engraved with lettering at a trophy engraver shop then the lettering filled in with 'antique ivory' paint (aged white colour).
