You will get far better/faster communication between your PC, router and TV if you use the T-Link gizmos you just bought. Connect one to the router with the ethernet cable supplied and plug it into a wall socket nearby. Then plug the other into the TV (or DVD player), again with the ethernet cable supplied and plug it into the nearest mains socket. Then you should find that Robert was your dad's brother and have a speed equal to that on your PC, without much/any buffering. They send your Internet connection via your mains wiring.
Skype - wonderful idea - I have used it almost since it started, mainly for intercontinental calls to grandkids and long-distance UK calls, again to grandkids. We have video calls when homework proves difficult. Do soem reading and try it. If/when you get it working, PM me for my Skype ID, and we can chat.
Aldi ........ David, it is funny you should mention well-heeled drivers of motors. Yesterday, I visited our local Aldi (less than a mile away), and out of, I would say, 80 cars there, only maybe10 of us weren't driving Mercs, Audis, Lexus, Porsche, or top-of-the-range Range Rover. Yarm and the surrounding area is populated by many huntin', shootin', fishin' types and only has a quite small Sainsburys in the town High Street. Parking there is next to impossible. When we lived in Germany near Frankfurt in the 80s, it was the same - accept the cramped conditions and queues and you get good value products at low prices.
I too mourn the loss of the comfortable coffee shop atmosphere in Waitrose - when I visited Cirencester to see my daughter's family, we quite often stopped off in the Waitrose coffee shop there when out shopping, or collecting the children from school nearby. In Yarm town High Street we have a two-storey Costa Coffee that is always crowded with senior citizens waiting for their bus to travel home on their bus pass. You will find me there too, on Tuesdays and Thursdays after doctor and library trips, again courtesy of my bus pass, because parking a car is next to impossible with limited parking slots.
