Hi,
Yes I'll sleep tonight Lawrence with one problem less to sort out. I was with the technician when he put his tester across the wires to our bungalow and found one to earth? He apologized saying he would have to shoot off for ten minutes to check a larger control box nearby ours being a slave box. When he returned he played around in the control box then changed items under our bungalow and eventually after quite a bit of work our phone was working; with the phone sorted he next set about installing the brand new router and setting everything up; this guy really knew his job and was a quick worker;Bron and I were very impressed by him.
I don't know anything about this new plug in system and haven't yet had chance to play with Wi-Fi but I've just returned from PC world with the TP-LINK which I intend to try using tomorrow because it's too dark now to be playing around. I'd like to get the printers off my desk and into our spare bedroom connecting by Wi-Fi but as I say I have to learn what is what and how things work; the old steam powered router has only just been replaced and I'm not the sharpest tool in the kit when it comes to electronics; I still struggle with remote controls?
I'm very pleased now Colin to have the problems fully resolved and its good to know you've got the device clones which I've just bought and that they work; the technician swore by these saying how much better they would be compared to Wi-Fi so for a few quid I'm willing to give them a go. The speed of the computer now makes my head spin and it didn't appear slow before but is now supercharged. I'm pleased you too have now got your phone problem sorted.
I did break out in a sweat Big Al when I could not contact Bron whilst I was away from home at Rufforth and feared the worst as did Bron who was home awaiting my call and was becoming increasingly worried in case I had suffered an accident; Bron and I enjoy each others company and apart from a morning once a month whilst I visit Rufforth we are constantly together so we always know what each is doing all the time. I don't like mobiles but bought this cheap mobile for the once a month call and it distressed us both a great deal; I don't walk around with a mobile phone welded to my ear and think mobile phone call charges to be a rip off. Tweeting and texting are alien to me as is Facebook and all the other similar things.
I'm now looking forward to some quality time restoring the Lorch; it's about time our luck changed for the better because its been more terrible than usual lately?
Thanks everyone for trying to help and as I get more into sorting the TV/Blu-ray disc player out I might be asking for more help?
Kind regards, Col.

Happiness is a wreck of a cabinet to restore.
