Been with Plusnet since 2002. Like all suppliers they've had their good and bad times but overall I'm happy. Their call centre is in Sheffield and is currently rather overloaded because they've been a bit too popular recently, possibly due to some very good deals. Signing up online is easy, if you name somebody else with a Plusnet account they will get a referral bonus. Refugee, Mark Hennessey and myself are in that group. Other GVR folk may also be.
Unfortuantely whichever landline based supplier you go with you will need a new line and this will cost. Unless you are lucky and somebody is doing a special deal.
Avoid Talktalk. While I'm sure they have improved, it was from a very low base.
Without a phone line it's difficult to know what sort of speed you'll get. At least with Virgin you got a guaranteed high speed connection due to the different technology.
Freeview or Freesat for TV, unless you want the subscription only channels in which case you might as well pay Murdoch for everything:-(
