I've been doing a bit more at this set as time permits, and have started to reassemble the main chassis. I've attached a couple of 'before' and a couple of 'after' pics. It's now ready to re-wire. The old wiring harness is still in place as a reminder of how to wire the main chassis to the power supply chassis. I've also made and fitted a new paxolin voltage selector panel for the mains transformer as the old one had bowed. I had been reluctant to disturb the flimsy primary lead-out wires from the transformer, but felt that I couldn't leave the old panel in place. The paxolin was barely 1mm thick and the new panel I made is 2.5mm.
Additionally, I wasn't happy with the turret tag-strip I'd fitted in place of the old tagstrip on the PSU as it meant that the ten wires from the PSU to the main chassis had to be soldered to the turrets, whereas screw terminals would make for easier disconnection and reconnection. I therefore fashioned a terminal strip, making ten brass terminals on the lathe previously referred to. The terminals are soldered on the inside of the PCB strip, and tapped 4BA on the outside so that 4BA pan-head screws and solder tags can be used. While I had the PSU in bits, I made a new label for the cap block as the original one I made looked naff covered in beeswax.
I get little time for hobbies, so progress is erratic and spasmodic but I'm enjoying myself, and that's all that matters! Nice not to have to work to deadlines.
Warmest place to work has been in the greenhouse which saves putting the heater on in the workshop!
