I am pretty sure If you go through that thread there were spaces introduced in the lettering on later ones but not on the early ones.
I checked one out of a bit of 1960s kit and it had spaces in the code while the codes rolled back to ones without spaces that were fitted to valve amplifiers that date from the early 1950s. They did fit but the thread needs a summary writing up to make the job easier.
