Yes, that was my plan and it's what I did in the first instance, using shellac sanding sealer, then I thought I'd be clever (not!), and coat in it wax. There's a pic of the old cap as found - it wasn't the original one from new - it was a 'service replacement' bodged in sometime, I imagine during the war years when most skilled service engineers would have been conscripted.
I made a bracket for the replacement as it would have originally have been. I didn't slavishly copy the original wording for the label - just tried to make it look in keeping.
