Many thanks Big Al for the Brook update. I left Brooks in 2000 and at that time the timber department I was in charge of was packing machines for both Poland and India but I know the company has been taken over again since then.

Working in distribution at Brooks was very stressful indeed due to the volume of motors being produced each day; I used to hide in my car at dinnertime away from all the phones and turn my pager off; I could never walk a straight line because someone always wanted me; I did everything possible to get the motors out of the door but when I eventually came down with shingles the writing was on the wall; get out or be carried out. I can't complain; I worked extremely hard and although wages in Huddersfield were generally depressed Bron and I bought our dream bungalow and I left with a final salary pension so in the end it was worth it but I have never set foot on the premises since leaving. I worked at the Empress Works Headquarters.
