General Radio: according to Wikipaedia, yes, you are right. But I know that I have read somewhere that it was originally a Zenith invention.

Agreed, but I always find it interesting to discover the origins of equipment and devices the names of which we use on an everyday basis and take for granted because they always seem to have been there. I remember discovering about that General Radio thing in one of the electronics mags, many, many moons ago !
