You are a gloomy old bugger young Col.
I just dial it up on the Gearbox and buy a Threading Tool.
However, I agree that if you want to thread a few through holes buy a Tap. On the other hand if you want to thread a short blind hole in an awkward place it can be much more 'interesting'.
