Thanks for your excellent suggestion Refugee. The oak handle I've just turned is only meant as a temporary handle until I get fully into tidying this lathe up.
The mounting bolt is bent and although I've straightened it a great deal this has slightly distorted the thread area so the bolt doesn't locate right up to the thread shoulder. I don't know the thread size yet but eventually I'll either make a new bolt and turn another wooden handle but from a very dark coloured wood or simply make a steel handle. I just wanted an excuse to christen the Graduate lathe. One option is to turn a black dense plastic handle. I love these little jobs and can tinker around with them for hours. If I didn't own the woodturning lathes I would have simply inserted washer spacers at the thread end taking up the slack but this is too easy. I started work on the Lorch yesterday afternoon and as its a nice day so far today I'll wander into the garage.
