Thanks Joe; yes sir I've been taking your advice and have just come out of the garage after a session with the bandsaw; will post on the bandsaw thread shortly.
You are so right Alan D yes a top class paint job is hard to achieve and involves many hours of stripping down and preparation where machinery is concerned; lathes are further complicated by copious amounts of oil being present.
I too like plenty of oil on my machines Big Al but only where needed because oil attracts dirt turning it into an efficient grinding compound where unwanted and unsightly in other places. I always apply liberal quantities of oil/grease during re-assembly then wipe away excess.
