'Originality' is a concept I've never understood as as soon as you do anything to a set, and assuming it has never been touched before, the originality goes out of the window. You can re-stuff caps but in doing so you're utterly destroying the originals.
The same goes for re-finishing cabinets: you could use the exact same method and materials as the manufacturer but the finish you apply will never be the one that Bush or whoever applied.
For all that I don't like the Arts and Crafts style I do share the philosophy about being honest about materials and methods and have no problem with repairs and modifications which improve performance, reliability and safety. These then become part of a sets history and maybe in another fifty or so years' time somebody else will wonder why someone obviously took time, trouble and expense to restore a radio long after it was obsolete.
Each to there own of course. We all do this for fun and derive that fun in different ways.
