Lawrence.
Not doubting that Lawrence, but no better than today's equivalent caps - they were just what was around in that era - just run of the mill caps, like the C280 'tropical fish caps' . It's when people claim that mustard caps give a 'mellow tone' or whatever, with no technical evidence to back that up when it all become nonsensical. Still - it's an ill wind that blows no-one any good, and there are plenty who are prepared to pay top dollar on e-bay for 30 yr old mustards when present manufactured caps would do as good if not better a job at a tenth of the price.
The more they 'talk up' the alleged magical qualities of mustard caps, the higher the price they're prepared to pay, then as with any other commodity where the supply is inelastic, so will the price increase still further. Normal market forces apply - charge what the market will stand. Doesn't matter whether it's a humble mustard cap, a premier league footballer or a work of art. And of course those that are in he market for mustard caps, also often sing the praises of gold plated multi-strand mains leads to reduce mains-born interference. (Allegedly).
I can recall mustard caps being sold at radio rallies in 'lucky bags' at £1.00 for about 100. I've got a bagful in the loft somewhere - one day - hopefully some time from now, I might become posthumous goldmine!
Ho hum.
