Is this a new twist on expiring after warranty is out?

As the originator of this thread, can I respectfully request that it is closed before it descends into a "mine is bigger than yours" match. I believe the message has got across that not all brands are what they seem on the surface - my mid-thread info was supposed to clear this up by linking to a site that gave a repairman's observation and history of the white goods brands - no more.
