A 40k pot across the 10v feed might not make any difference, from your earlier posts the 10k speed control pot you have needs to be across a voltage of 1.62v or there about in order to go from min to max speed, you could do it with the two 10k pots you have if you don't have any fixed resistors to hand, and replace it with a couple of resistors once you know the values required.
