Just a bit of an update on the replacement lid for the Solar.

Thanks for going to the trouble to post yet another very interesting and informative youtube video John. You went to a lot of trouble dealing with the 'out of squareness' of the box to get the lid to mate up exactly to the box. It explains why boxes are invariably made in one piece and the lid cut off the completed box so that they exactly match. Just one degree out at the corners makes all the difference.

I liked the idea of getting a wide piece of sandpaper on which to sand the whole box to get it level. The only time I've seen sandpaper that wide is from surplus sanding belting, but I've never checked out its availability. I did once have a roll, but cut it up to make sanding sheets for a half-sheet power sander. On reflection, rather stupid!

I enjoyed watching your other youtube videos on casting resin components. 3-D printers within the reach of our shallow pockets can't come quick enough eh!

Hope the right type and size of hinges turn up from one source or another John.

There was a Solar for sale at the recent Golborne Swapmeet, but it was too far gone to consider except as a donor - all the front panel was illegible. What a shame such equipment is left to go to wrack and ruin in that way.

Good luck with the restoration. (I see the radio still at the far end of the bench awaiting completion too!).
