Alas these hinges on eBay are too big for this application. The smallest one is designed to fix to a 3/4in frame - exactly twice the thickness of mine.
Kevin Hoyland has very kindly sent me lots of photos of his two units so I've attached one that shows what the hinges look like (which most of you probably know already). the rear frame is 3/8in thick.
The hunt continues.
