Its a great job David, beautifully engineered.
Makes my effort look very crude but it worked and wound some difficult coils. This included an interface transformer with 3 wdgs of 4800 turns of 42 SWG without a break.
Colin is right about having a strong enough bobbin particularly for field coils. Old ones are often weak or not there at all ! I had one where it had been wound on a mandrel with tapes running up the inside. After winding, using glue as they went, these tapes were tied around the outside. Of course I made a bobbin for it with wooden support cheeks whilst putting on the wire.
This was a whopper with 40,000 turns of 38 SWG... it was about 3 miles of wire. I did have a break as the winder construction was not up to so much use and came apart. OK once beefed up.
My motor and gearbox was from an ancient, variable speed battery drill and was best used on "Screwdriver" for slowest and least jerk from an improvised foot pedal.
