The guys on another friendly forum have persuaded me to open it and let them have a look at some photos. We are allowed to share them here too.
I have revealed why it is so heavy even without the cranked generator.
There is a stack of two horseshoe magnets big enough to fit a modest pony and everything else is very well built with machined movement brackets and solid castings.
The serial numbers match too. The original dial and movement are there.
The calibration seals were made of soft metal and came out with a scribe.
I now need four press studs half an inch in diameter to cover the screws.
What a nice smell of vintage shellac inside it
