This is now back on the go with the SMPSU gone. We are well on the way to an AM friendly LED lighting system now.
The main problem it had was a 15 year old attempt to get it to dim by remote control that failed mainly due to lack of suitable electronic potentiometer. Audio types were no good due to them all being log curve.
I found a mechanical switch that showed hope. It has 10 positions and five terminals so it has a digital output of some kind. This should not matter as the LEDs are wired in series parallel in 5 banks.
The problem is the rating of the switch as it would be 100ma on a good day with the wind behind it.
This should not be too much of a problem with the price of silicon these days so away we go.
The control will have a bit of an odd feel to it but it is simple and should work.
The mechanical parts come from an old blind and the brackets from an old Xbox 360 chassis that has given up quite a few useful bits of preformed steel to my home brew projects.
