Thanks for the comments guys. I know that all of the half Watt ones we mostly come across as a large as todays 2 Watt metal film resistors, which I tend to use as replacements as modern half-Watt ones look so puny in comparison, even though they'll no doubt be up to the task. I recall some time ago on another forum someone who made replica carbon rod 'body-tip-dot' resistors - probably using Milliput or some such thing, and painting them with modelling paint. Looked authentic.
