Lawrence - tell me, please, in your opinion, do the successful buyers of scarce vintage radios such as this buy them because they primarily want to use them in the manner & for the purpose for which they were intended or, primarily, because they see them as an investment?

Why do I ask? Just curious; no ulterior motive.

Don't really know Al, but on the face of it and assuming it isn't a "bitza" that HRO is a very early one being 2v heaters with round IF cans and all and I would say is quite rare for over here in the UK.
Use/investment, that's an open question I suppose, I bought a Hallicrafters SX28 for just under a £100, spent say £20 on R's and C's replacement, I would realisticaly say that if I was to sell it I would get more than I paid for it and the replacement parts as apart from replacing the "service" components it is in a nice and original condition.
At the moment I can't use my radios because of DIY stuff but prior to that and hopefully afterwards then I will be using them all, in rotation of course.
I guess the more rare they are or the more original they are in the un got at sense then the more they seem to be worth in terms of desirability and cash.
Judging what decent HRO's go for these days then I would say I'm quids in with the ones I have and they also perform very well, so in that case it's the best of both worlds I guess.
