I don't pretend to understand everything you write, and I certainly wouldn't attempt anything similar. However, it makes splendid reading and the 'after' pictures are inspiring.

I suppose we all have our little quirky areas of interest.
I don't have a lot of money to spend or a lot of space to hold a 'collection' of anything. Clocks form part of my collecting interests and as I can't be bothered to wind up more than 15-20 every week, then the battery powered early types have sort of grown on me over the years. The rarer clocks have professional interest, especially in the USA and some types command high prices. In the UK, the early battery types do not have a big following (maybe because everyone thinks of the cheap, plastic quartz derivative) so at the moment, whhen they appear in auction, they are quite cheap.

You don't often need a lot of skills to repair the various types of battery clock. The electronics side is fairly easy - if you can change a transistor or capacitor, then you can repair these clocks. However, there is also a mechanical side to these clocks and some experience of repairing pocket watches or similar is essential. The skills required are dismantling, cleaning and reassembling. If you can handle escapements and balance wheels, then that helps. Sometimes, a worn pivot will need to be repaired or a worh hole rebushed. You can usually avoid the difficult tasks by swapping parts or complete movements. Often, complete clocks with ugly, scuffed cases can be picked up on ebay for £0.99 plus the postage. This type of purchase will yield much of what you need.
