When I lived in Gloucestershire, I went many times to Wessex Timber, who were about 5 miles from us, and chatting to them found that they throw away a lot of ends of timber or timber damaged with strapping. Once they knew what I was interested in, they would save them and sell them to me as scrap at pence per bundle. It included Canadian Red Cedar too.
Maybe you could chat with one local to you, or even with Wessex?
