I used to have the same problem with unwanted (at the time) visitors to the workshop. Then I had a large (18inch x 18inch) red traffolyte sign engraved, saying "Please do not disturb me while I am working as you wouldn't want a severed set of fingers on your conscience". That was hung outside on the wall in a conspicuous spot whenever I was working and, after that, I didn't seem to get bothered. Although once a bolshie salesman did try interrupting, so I screamed and rushed out of the workshop with red gasket sealer on my hands (fake blood). We never saw him run so fast!
