The VM77D is in a slightly different case. In fact it looks 'Cost reduced', with a plastic mains switch and no 'Advance' printing on the meter.
The major change is that it's built on a PCB - see attached. I only have the Circuit for this - no values - but it looks much the same.
So, when I get to them, and that depends on many factors, I think I'll start with the 'D'. It should be the easiest to work on and will give some insight into what the problems might be. Having said that the VM77 is riddled with Plessey and Hunts Capacitors so that will no doubt be a good starting point.
