I am pretty sure that I had a tin whisker in the AC176 I replaced.
In the past the output stages of British sets used two little transformers with an all PNP lineup with the input transformer driven by a "D" version of the output pair. The term "driver" has got a little bit stuck now due to that.
There is a transistor line up to be seen.
