Deleting data from a USB memory stick

Can you try attempting to wipe the drives in a different computer, using a different OS? Reason I ask is that I do remember issues with memory sticks running under Vista, the main reason I went over to windows 7 in the end. Other trick, try to manually wipe a couple of single files, one at a time, see what happens.

I don't have ready access to another computer unless I visit my brother, but I've no immediate visit planned. I must remember to take the drives next time I go.

I did try deleting files and sub-folders progressively early on in this saga, to no avail. They appeared to delete succesfully, but all then reappeared just like the whole folder!
I'll try again, combined with some of the other tricks such as the 'Eject' command.
