I think you will find most towns want you to visit they just rather you didn't bring your car. (Park and Ride)

So the car companies are selling us the dream of the open road and freedom. (something that has not been true for at least 30 years) Not picking on a particular brand or car but the Nissan Juke springs to mind!

The reality is no one wants our cars hence the popularity of the out of town shopping centre.
