It's supprising how much a slack a flat belt will grip, the one on my old Dominion combination machine used to flap like the clappers, it drove via the gearbox the feed rollers in the 16 x 9 planer/thicknesser it pulled a 24 ft 12 x 6 Dougie Fir through it!
