Hi David, mine at the moment is all original complete with the DF section, even the rubber wiring is in excellent shape it is all workie workie and more or less up to to full spec, however there are the tell tale signs that the chassis mounted tubular capacitors are under stress so will have to sort them out. The only thing I have replaced so far is the Y63 tuning indicator, I managed to find a NOS one on Ebay for under £10.
The reason they are so popular is that many have survived, where as other receivers that predated the R1155 are a bit thin on the ground, a good example of an R1155 can fetch over £300, one was sold the other day by a member of another forum on Ebay for more than that I think.
I like them, not as heavy or large as your standard 19" rack mounted beastie.
As to my restoration, I'm not sure wether I will go the whole hog insofar as cosmetics go, sometimes it can be like stripping down an antique table, it strips the history, or like taking the patina off an old bronze statue.
Some of my receivers I might, some I will leave as is, depending on it's (in my eyes) historical merit.
I have (apart from a few light scratches) an almost mint American equivelnt so to speak of the R1155 it being the BC348Q, it's still got it's internal dynamotor and internally is as it left the factory all those years ago, it does work but not quite full spec nowadays, keep it as a museum piece or replace those Micamoulds?
There is something to be said to do a full rebuild and cabinet job, the skills and knowledge required, yet on the other hand there is something to be said for leaving all alone and repair it when it develops a fault approach.
