Hi,
Well done Garry in avoiding installing Snap.do onto your computer; at least you were aware of it so hopefully this thread has been of some use?
I couldn't shift Snap.do at all from my computer and the anti-spyware programs also missed it with the exception of Virgin media security which only kept warning me of a "Dangerous page" but I could still access it very easily so after many hours of nothing but frustration I gave in and wiped the lot.
This actually has been of some benefit to me in the end; I'm now familiar with removing and re-installing Win7 for any future problems. Also because of your help I'm more informed regarding the number of programs available to scan for these problems.
I'm very keen on my computer security but Snap.do got in and settled down very well causing me a great deal of grief and I simply could not settle knowing it was still lurking in the background so now hopefully I've given it a decent burial?
I can only say that my friends email containing the website link had been passed by AVG; looking back though AVG would not have detected anything amiss until the website was opened? However once Snap.do was let in by me; yes I'll hold my hand up; AVG and Malwarebytes both failed to spot it leaving me puzzled as to just how much anti-spyware programs can be trusted?
With luck no other member will suffer from Snap.do because I've been unfortunate enough to install it but can now at least warn of its presence.
For a number of years I've downloaded free movies and music videos in fact I must have more than 1,000 movies saved to DVD and never had any major problems. All I did to install Snap.do was to open an innocent website showing pictures of pets mostly kittens which my friend wanted me to see; both Bron and I are cat/animal lovers and I've viewed many such websites previously; I never ever suspected a problem. Why don't these people who spend time adding these malicious programs get a life?
I've a confession to make; over the last couple of days I've been running Firefox; after using Chrome for so long and becoming so familiar with Chrome I couldn't take to Firefox even though it is a very good browser so this afternoon I gave in and installed Chrome so I'm now back to normal with a squeaky clean fast computer.
Kind regards, Col.
