Went to visit my cousin about 30 years ago and it seemed as if the traffic signs only wanted to direct you to the town centre or the M3. On my 3rd circuit of the ring road I took a gamble and headed off down the A30 and found her house.
Alternatively Lancaster is one big roundabout with traffic lights every few yards. My daughter is at uni there and the first time we visited it was easy to find the hall of residence she was in but to get out we had to spend 20mins or more travelling round the one way system to get out. We subsequently found a back way in and out which avoids the town centre.
