She was the female equivalent of Brian Perkins. Cut glass RP accent, with the sort of 'magisterial' gravitas for which BBC was once noted, but not always easy for her to keep her guard up.
Probably the worst time anyone could burst into a fit of giggles is when the'yre reading an obituary:

I wonder why she's retiring at the relatively young age of 57? It's not as though she has to be 'eye candy' on the radio as happens with TV, where presenters are often on the receiving end of comments about their haistryle or dress sense. On radio, it's all in the voice innit?
