C'mon Gary, it's the one for you, I reckon you would do a real good job with that one judging from the stuff you have displayed on this forum, they are not that ugly and are easy to work on, they really pull in the weak stuff when up to spec. When the front panel is refurbishd they look the part.
I would argue that they are better than the Hallicrafters SX28, the tuning mechanism is a dream to use and easy to overhaul, no flimsy stamped out anti backlash gears in the HRO, it's got the Xtal as a plug in on top of the phasing control box, those Xtals are really easy to strip down and clean.
Plug in coils, no wavechange switches to think about, air spaced capacity tuned IF's and BFO Osc. no jamed slugs, ditto for the coil packs, will take a long wire aerial or a dipole, 2 RF stages, a quality tuning gang with a composite material shaft which means no birdies at HF.
