Well David you wont be doing it for it to be worth any money at the end, only just for the fun of it. So if you have any projects you think may be more enjoyable I would say move it on... Ebay?
Here's one bought at a local auction 3 years ago.
This one had a cabinet with no chips or cracks and the chassis were in quite good condition. The dial from memory needed replacing. Note: Bought for only £30.
Even when you have restored it, it wont be much of a performer, my AC97 isnt but of course with the eye tube and the deco looks is a much more desirable set.
I'm not being a kill joy here, as a BVWS member you will know I have restored many basket cases. Now, I question the value of doing it, unless the end result can be really good, as to me it seems better to spend the time and money on something that is going to be "a first class job" at the end. The crack in your cabinet will always show (and would irritate me) and the finish looks dull and may not polish up well.
You could say "... but you are currently doing a French Integra that looks a basket case". However, it has much more going for it: its a rare set, has an attractive black cabinet, with no chips or cracks and a great shine. Also, as I have discovered it has lots of interesting technical features. Yes! the chassis needed a complete strip and there is no circuit diagram available and its been 'got at'. To me thats added a lot to the the enjoyment of doing it.
The open field coil on your Ekco is zero problem: I rewound one of 5250 Ohm and > 40,000 turns with no problems with my simple coil winder, of course wire will be another expense.
Anyway just my thoughts and as often not the same as others
