I've used the Netgear DG834v3 for several years with no problems other than the occasional re-boot to change the IP address or after adding a new network device.
The Netgear supports a 'save configuration settings' utility (and corresponding 'load configuration settings') from the diagnostics menu after logging in to the router.
Regular firmware updates have been downloaded from the Netgear support site which are supposed to fix glitches and bugs.
This model is always available on eBay for around a tenner and I've got a couple of spares for emergency standby.
Do you want to borrow one?
