Very helpful Al, in fact I just noted that when checking some of my Trafos, I had a Drake Transformers 3VA which is at least 25 years old, but it is the same dimensions as a recently purchased trafo from Rapid that states 6VA. Your formula confirms 3VA, so the modern one is obviously going to run hot !
Goes with my theory that everything modern overheats and dies
