In all honesty Ed I don't think it's worth it inless you're very lucky. You're just as likely to finish up with another knackered engine.
A friend of mine had a similar problem a couple of years ago and we bought a new engine off the net. Bolt it on, add Petrol and Oil, pull the cord and off you go.
I think it was around £140.
