Hi,
Many thanks Gary for clarifying the position regarding recommended or pointed in the direction of. I was happy to receive your input either way.
I did say I was a novice regarding modern computers hence I asked for advice. Given the spec of the HP I'm buying it isn't over priced and I don't mind spending more to improve it even further but I'm sure it will do everything I wish of it. If I want to upgrade a bit later then I could install a top end graphics card and an SSD but where do I stop?
I enjoy my computer all year round but spending more time in winter using it; during our long hot summers I like to be outside doing all the good things in life like digging up drains; felling trees and building chimneys.
One thing I have learned is that a top end gizzmo today is outdated in a month when a brand new must have gizmo comes along. Just see how queues are formed for the latest mobile phones etc; good marketing is better these days than a good product it seems.
This old computer isn't really bad; for my needs I could have easily slapped in a new graphics card. I can use it for CAD and it performs quite well but as the computer is old it's performance is poor in certain areas.
I did recently buy a new 23" flat screen monitor which has made a huge difference so hopefully the new computer will be well on top of my needs. I'll never be a computer geek as my interests lay elsewhere.
Kind regards, Col.
