Hi,
Many thanks Nick for adding this very useful information. As you know I'm getting into CAD and my computer on-board graphics simply is too outdated to cope. In fact my computer is giving me lots of grief including taking so long to boot up I can go away and have a meal.
A short while ago I completely wiped the HDD and installed a fresh XP Home edition; I intended to follow your previous excellent advice in my other thread but as I intended to buy a new DELL in the New Year decided to put up with this computer until then. This computer has given me good reliable service over many years but I decided against upgrading the graphics and change the lot.
Gary very kindly recommended an HP computer but the one he suggested was no longer available although I wasn't too bothered as I could wait and shop around. Thanks to Gary though after exchanging a few emails I did some web surfing and found just the computer for me at a very good price with an excellent spec. Gary had said an i3 would possibly do everything I wanted but an i5 would be much better this one I've now ordered is i7. It's good to have knowledgeable friends; thanks Gary.

The problem was that this computer was no longer in stock but Amazon was still taking orders for it? At £500 I wanted to be absolutely sure before placing my order that I would receive this model. I emailed Amazon asking two questions; was this computer coming back into stock and would it still be at the same price? I received a quick reply from Amazon saying yes to both questions so I immediately placed my order. Amazon will not debit my account until the computer is ready to be shipped and even then I will be advised as to shipping details; I opted for the free shipping. Top marks to Amazon so far for service.
I could have looked around for ages at computers and as this one is such a good spec I thought why wait until the New Year. I'm sure any problems I encounter using CAD on this new computer will be down to me.
What a lovely Christmas; Bron very kindly bought me the Clarke engineering lathe and now a new computer; It's been Bron's turn today and we've just returned home after some serious retail therapy.
Kind regards, Col.
