i agree with andy, most vitage radios that had gram inputs that were for high output ceramic or crystal pickups you would need a very high inp transformer and i dont know where you would get one from.
i use a small 2 valve transmitter bought for £38 from an auction site, its a kit but very easy to build the sound quality is very good.

if its made by hand it can be repaired by hand
