Hi Gents, just a thought about the heart shaped cams etc.
If a stepper motor is used (to drive the wire guide) you can effectively control the speed of the guide at a multiple or sub multiple of the spindle speed with some electronic counting circuitry, this should allow the appropriate "wave" action.
I'm afraid I don't have time to develop this at present but I have some long and boring flights coming up in Feb, so let me have your inputs.
