I know you said for you the thread was closed but just a quickie …
After 70 I realised that time had become as or more important than money (within reason of course). I was still trying to save it like the ‘good old days’ when I didn’t have much.
I'm into lots of things: I wont be a bore but sport, fitness, travel, photography and history, it goes on and much more …
It made sense to concentrate the time left to me on the things I like best …
I gave up the vehicle servicing (found a good guy and he needs to make a living) …
Another example: I used to prolong the life of washing mchs and dishwashers.
A 10 year old washer started to play up and leak, didn’t even take the top off. To the tip for recycling. Same with 7 year old dishwasher (used every day so had our money). Bought new ones, wife is happy says they do a much better job and are greener.
Still probably do too much DIY … plan to give up painting the house which I did again this year… may get the 40 year old windows replaced (that’s a tough one as we like ‘em!)
Colin’s take on cars is interesting and may be better for us. But I like having old vehicles simply ‘cos I don’t have to care too much about them. Leave them anywhere, cant get either in the garage. Wash them ½ doz times a year at the most.
But maybe it’s the way to go … think Mazda do 3 years included servicing … we shall see.
