Here's my take on it all for what it's worthl, first my knowledge of computers is not a lot but these are my observations, I have had several over the years, they all electrically gave up the ghost, each one was replaced by a faster one, when I replaced the first one with a faster one could I draw in a drawing program any quicker...no, could I get on line quicker...no, did the calculator function function any quicker..no, did my internet work any quicker...no.
When that one packed up I got another, it had a faster speed (as they do over the years) did I observe anything going quicker...no. Then broadband came along, could I get on the internet quicker..yes, could I download stuff from the internet quicker...yes, did I observe any of the other functions getting any quicker..no.
A couple more computers later and I have ended up with a laptop, can I observe any functions going quicker..no.
The local news said that BT had upgraded the local exchange/box of tricks whatever it's called so we would all get faster broadband so I upgraded my service with them, was the internet any faster...yes, for about a week then back to the same old s**t, Hmm I'll upgrade again, any difference...yes for about 3 days.
I'm convinced that you can only cram so much stuff down a 40 year old rural copper wire.
The good news is that my new faster computer (the laptop) shuts down quicker than the old ones when I close it down which means I don't have to hang around waiting to switch it off at the mains before I go to bed and it's smaller and takes up less space, that is what I have observed.
